Q100 Bookshelf Loudspeaker

Good things come in small packages

Shortly after we gave the Q Series a fresh new look in 2011, Hi-Fi Vision boldly claimed the Q100 bookshelf speaker sets 'the sound benchmark for compact loudspeakers very high'. Fortunately nothing has changed between then and now, so the Q100 is still exactly that great.

The Q100 prominently features our point-source Uni-Q driver array, which is engineered to produce an exceptionally accurate, three-dimensional soundstage that evenly envelopes any room. While the Q100 is sold in pairs, you'll swear you're hearing your music from more than just the duo time and time again.

One Source To Rule Them All

The Q100 features a 5.25 inch Uni-Q driver array with a 1 inch aluminum dome tweeter at its acoustic center. This Uni-Q driver array offers fast and clean midrange response, thanks to a braced magnesium/aluminum alloy cone and with KEF’s Z-flex surround smoothing the transition to the front panel. Based on the state-of-the-art HF driver developed for our flagship Blade, the Q100 boasts a much larger dome tweeter for increased sensitivity and distortion-free power handling.

There can't be a better speaker set for $250 out there right now. I set these up in sub-optimal conditions and A/B'd them real quick with my recently purchased R500's. Neither are fully broken in, but the Q100 was fresh out of the box. The R500's sounded better, of course, but the small margin by which they differed was startling. They have similar midrange and soundstage. Q has smaller but tighter bass, as to be expected, but it was still way more bass than this little driver should produce. It really is interesting to put your ear up to one driver and hear nearly the whole spectrum. The R has more clarity and sparkle. I bought these as side surrounds and now I want to buy another set for my office as a stereo set. At this price, it's super tempting, especially because they won't last forever.I drive my main 5 speakers with an Outlaw 750 at 150 watts per channel and my Emotiva UMC-200 as DAC and preamp, with room correction enabled. I can't speak to how these sound with smaller amps, but they sound great in my room with my setup. For side surrounds in a high end setup, I think these are more than adequate. I had considered the R100, R800ds, LS50, KEF Eggs, and T301, all of which would have been considerably more expensive. First three are insane overkill and are rear ported. Last two are overpriced for what you get. The Q100 is probably a better speaker than the Eggs or T301 and also cheaper. They're front ported and come with a keyhole mount, which is perfect for surround duty. However, the wedge they give you to even it out when mounted is completely inadequate. I added 1 inch foam pieces wrapped in black duct tape and double stick taped in the four corners to stabilize them. They seriously just swing around with the included hardware. My cats jumped on those things and they nearly flew off the wall from the momentum, lol. Please see pics for my solution. They work very well. Clearance is EXACTLY one inch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Piccoli capolavori!
Reviewed in Italy on June 27, 2019
Come suonano?
se si tiene conto delle cifre in ballo;

5.0 out of 5 stars Für mich nahezu perfekte Satelliten im 2.1-Setup!
Reviewed in Germany on October 21, 2019
Vorab:

+ hochwertige, tadellose Verarbeitung
+ (in meinen Augen) sehr ansprechende Optik: Das Koaxial-Chassis inkl.
