Great as an additional access point...
I have been using this router, Archer C7 V5, for approximately three years to run my network with a third party firmware, Gargoyle, without any significant issues. However, a couple years ago, I upgraded to a pfSense system (a repurposed HP workstation as my router) & a refurbished ubiquity AP (LR). Thus, the Archer was retired. The sole UniFi AP covers approximately 90% of my one story-house (3000+ sq.ft.) with an optimal signal. Recently, I decided to extend the Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house, hence, I have been searching for two more cheap unifi access points in order to have full Wi-Fi coverage & a true mesh system to be controlled by raspberry pi. Since cheap raspberry pi's are out stock & unable to find cheap refurbished unifi AP's on Amazon, I decided to return the retired Archer back to service & recently purchased an additional one < refurbished, for $31.00 w/ free shipping on Amazon> as temporary supplemental access points until the aforementioned devices are available. I'm no longer using a third-party firmware. I reverted the third-party firmware back to tp-link since it appears tp-link has improved it & is more useful & informative as an AP vs Gargoyle, which is a form of openwrt. However, Gargoyle is second to none when it's configured as a router/ wireless bridge. During the firmware rollback, the older Archer was temporarily bricked because the latest tp-link firmware was processed within the Gargoyle GUI, which is a no, no! Lesson learned! I was able to unbrick it after viewing a couple YouTube videos with TFTP, which took me hours, because it turned out Windows 10 firewall kept blocking the process, unbeknownst to me. Success, after granting full firewall access, which includes both private & public to the TFTP server. The Archer C7's are located strategically in the attic <hot Florida attic>. I now have super Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house & also extends to the outside garage /patio /pool /yard /lake. Thus far, the signal is strong & consistent after one week. I'm hopeful with fingers crossed. If it starts to drop Wi-Fi like in the past, I'll switch the firmware back to Gargoyle. At this moment, I'm happy with my temporary mesh-like system after adding a second Archer to my existing network.
