Sound Your Best, Wherever You Are
Your non-stop life keeps you on the move. You answer a call in the car, keep talking out on the street, and say your goodbyes while leaving the coffee shop—and you expect to sound your best everywhere. The Plantronics Voyager Edge Bluetooth headset reliably eliminates unwanted noise with three precisely tuned microphones and enhanced noise canceling, optimizing your voice so your caller hears you, not your surroundings. Additionally, this headset is ready for wideband audio, making it compatible with smartphones enabled for HD Voice.
The Voyager Edge in black (view larger).Carry the Conversation, Not the Phone
Voyager Edge packs in responsive features to let you answer calls, use voice commands, and hear important status notifications without even looking at your phone. Smart sensor technology senses when the headset is being worn so it can automatically answer calls as you place the headset on your ear or redirect audio to your phone when you set down your headset. Voyager Edge syncs to your contacts, telling you who's calling before you answer and voice commands make call management easy—simply say "Answer" to take the call, or "Ignore" to send it to voicemail. Now your "phone hand" can carry a latte, greet someone, or open a door.
Performance and power to keep your conversation going (view larger).Stay Connected Longer
Be ready when life calls. Using the portable, wireless charging case to top up your Voyager Edge between calls will keep you powered throughout your day by giving you up to 10 additional hours of talk time. Status alerts announce when it's time to recharge, but if at any time you're curious, use a voice command to hear remaining talk time, visually check battery status on your smartphone, or dock your Voyager Edge in its case and tap the touch-sensitive icons to see the meter LEDs light up.
Fully charged case gives your Voyager Edge up to 16 hours of talk time (view larger).Enhanced by Free Plantronics Apps
Simplify your communication experience with a variety of free apps from Plantronics for both iOS and Android devices.
Use the free Plantronics Hub ™ app to explore features, change settings, check the connection, battery and smart sensor status, and even help you locate your lost headset. If you misplace your Voyager Edge, use the Find MyHeadset feature to send an audible tone to help you locate it nearby, or if it's out of Bluetooth range or powered off, you can use the Backtrack activity log to map where it was last in use. The Find MyHeadset feature is part of the Plantronics Hub app for iOS but remains a standalone app for Android.
To help you sort through your busy workday, the Plantronics InstantMeeting app automatically identifies conference calls and dialing details from your calendar, reminds you just before the meeting is scheduled to begin, and with one touch connects you to your conference call—no need to pull over and toggle between screens to find all those numbers and access codes.

The Voyager is around 2.75" long while the Era is around 2" long. Although the Voyager is 3/4" longer it has a small narrow boom. So the longer size is not much of an issue. It does come with a charge/carry case but it is a little large to carry in your pocket but I like the idea of protecting it with a case. And it is easy to keep the Voyager charged, just pop it in the case and it charges. The Era needs to be charged after a couple work meetings but need to wait till I get to an AC outlet. Seems like I charged the Era often but always had enough talk time. I do like the extra talk time on the Voyager, I don't worry about having enough time for the next conference call.
The battery life is much longer on the Voyager but I never really had an issue with the Era. The ear piece in the Voyager is about the same as the one I use on the Era. The Era came with several different ear pieces. The Voyage ear piece is ok to me, no problem but I don't wear it all day long either. When I'm done with a call I remove it.
The Voyager voice pickup is good, I tested it leaving a message for another phone line while talking in the Voyager. Then I walked up to a TV set playing at a normal level while talking. I could easily hear my voice all the way up to the TV but you can hear the TV sound in the background. Sort of like bits and pieces of TV sound. This is where I thought the Era did a better job. While using the Voyager talking with people while standing outside, I was told the conversation was clear and no noise from outside was picked up. I'm not sure how well it would do while driving in a car and dealing with loud trucks and horns beeping, etc. The Voyager instructions mention a procedure to recalibrate the microphone. I suppose background noise could be further reduced with some calibration. Will check more into that part.
One feature I like on the Voyager is the mute button. The Era did not have that and I would always have to turn the phone on, enter the security code, then go to the phone page and press mute to turn it on/off. It was a pain. The Voyage has a mute button on the headset which makes it much easier. I use the mute a lot in conference calls but not much for personal use.
There is no noticeable weight difference between the Voyager and the Era headsets. I know they are not identical in weight but both feel the same weight. The charge port on the Voyager is an easy fit while the Era was a typical micro USB which was a struggle to connect and disconnect. It seems like that part of the Era has the most wear.
Overall I like the Voyager and think it is close enough to the sound quality of the Era. One thing I notice is that where you use the headset is important to the quality. If you are around a lot of noisy areas or if your calls require extreme quiet that would perhaps change which headset is better. I rarely talk in front of any loud external noise so I'm mostly interested in blocking the softer sounds around me. One comment I often was told with the Era is that people thought I was in a quiet room talking to them. In some cases I was just sitting in an open area with general noise of people. I have not had that comment from anyone using the Voyager but maybe I need to calibrate the pickup sensor.
The Edge, unlike the new Era, provides great sound quality for the people with whom you are speaking on the other end. This would seem to be a primary qualifier for any headset that you are going to drop over $100 on. After all, who wants a headset that nobody can hear you on? I have had the Edge for several weeks and regularly solicit feedback on the call quality from those on the other end. So far so good.
The Edge has great battery life. I listen to a lot of podcasts, audiobooks, and internet radio with the headset. I have found this to be one of the most enjoyable features of the newer bluetooth headset capabilities. Although not scientifically based, I don’t doubt the 6 hour talk time estimate, and the handy charger case makes it very convenient to extend the time well beyond that.
The Edge is the most comfortable headset I have tried out of the box. I have very small ears and have historically used a custom made insert with my headsets. Although I will continue to do so, I have been using the small silicone insert that came with the Edge and have been pleasantly surprised. I can wear the Edge for about 2 hours at a time before my ear becomes fatigued. One downside, however, is that it doesn’t form a tight seal. This means you will often have to crank the volume up to be able to hear in noisy environments. This is a fairly small quibble, and one that will be fixed with a custom ear insert.
The size of the headset was an initial detractor. I was used to the tiny Era (original) and had then tried the even tinier new Era. But I found that small size definitely does not equal better quality. While the size is considerably larger than its chief competitor at Jawbone, it is not a heavy headset, and is still very comfortable. An unforeseen benefit of the Edge’s size is that it is harder to lose. Much to my chagrin, I have lost or accidentally washed my previous Era headsets (while in pants pockets) more times than I’d like to admit. I don’t think I’m as likely to do that with this headset, which is a bit meatier and more apparent when in a pocket.
Finally, the sound quality for streaming audio may be the one area in which the Edge doesn’t beat out the Era. Era’s HD audio is still superior, but not by a wide margin. I’m obliged to mention this, but I wouldn’t let it deter anyone’s decision on whether to use this headset over another, particularly the Era. Plantronics has created a winner here, and I hope to have many more months and even years of good use from this headset.
Just be prepared to deal with UK English as you can't change it to US English (which grinds my gears because they could add US English with a simple firmware update - I contacted Plantronics support about this but they were less than helpful). However, over time the UK English becomes less annoying as you get used to it. If you want a US English version be prepared to pay a premium at Best Buy. I couldn't justify the extra $50 at the time I made the purchase just to get a slightly more appealing voice. After all, it's not like I got the device to have a conversation with the device itself. It does make you have to sort of put on a slight accent sometimes when making a voice command.
As far as comfort goes the device is very comfortable. I can wear it all day and I can barely tell it is there yet it stays nicely in your ear and doesn't fall out easily. If I wear it multiple days in a row however it will start to bother my ear a bit. This isn't much of a problem for me as I don't keep it in my ear for longer than a conversation most of the time. That said, it is still more comfortable than any of my previous headsets I have owned.

PROS
Blueetoth einschalten, Headset einschalten. Freiwilliges Koppeln? Fehlanzeige.
Abschließend: Das Lade-Etui - macht schon was her.
Alles in allem: Absolute Kaufempfehlung.

Abschließend: Das Lade-Etui - macht schon was her.
Alles in allem: Absolute Kaufempfehlung.
Cura molto i vari Dettagli SOSTANZIOSI dell'apparecchio...
Credevo di no...
Insomma... Consigliatissimo! (non comprerò mai più Jabra)
Amazon, come sempre... Eccellente!
