Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB Tunable Gaming Mouse
The high performance, premium build quality, advanced gaming features and incredible comfort of G502 combine for a truly exceptional and highly customizable gaming experience.
Advanced Optical Sensor
G502 comes equipped with the PMW3366 optical sensor with zero acceleration, smoothing, or filtering across the entire DPI range (200-12,000DPI). That means you get exceptional tracking accuracy and consistent responsiveness no matter what sensitivity you set the mouse to.
On-the-Fly DPI
Add even more control to your game with quick DPI shifting from low to high sensitivity. Use the thumb button to transition between headshot-precise low-sensitivity targeting to lightning-fast high-DPI maneuvers. Cycle up and down through as many as five DPI settings with a click. Three DPI indicator lights tell you which setting you are on. Program these DPI settings with Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) or use the default settings that work great out-of-the-box.
Dual-Mode Hyper-Fast Scroll Wheel
Unlock the scroll wheel for hyper-fast continuous scrolling to spin quickly through long pages, or lock it down for single click precision scrolling. The weighty, metal wheel delivers confident, smooth and satisfying control for either mode.
Tune to Your Specs
A wide variety of weight and balancing configurations, custom RGB lighting, 11 programmable buttons, on-the-fly DPI shift settings, desk surface tuning and more. Personalize G502 for your gaming setup and style with Logitech Gaming Software.
Game Ready Details
In addition to the core performance and personalization features, many details were thoughtfully designed: Look for primary buttons rated to 20 million clicks with mechanical microswitches, braided cable with hook and loop cable tie, rubberized grips, magnetic weight-cavity door, and more.

This mouse is fairly large but sleek, with definite ergonomics. I use a palm grip with stubby fingers and it still fits me well (I’m right-handed). The ability to change the color of the light is irrelevant to me, but a nice touch. The metal scroll wheel gets a lot of flak from other reviewers, and while I don’t share their opinions, I understand why. I’d prefer a silicon sheath around it, but I don’t have any problems with the metal at all. It scrolls just fine, though it is a touch noisy when I speed-scroll on the click setting. As for the left- and right-click buttons, they have a standard clicking action and I don’t notice them much, but I can tell my fingers would work a little less if they reached farther forward. The click is a slight bit louder (crisper) than the others I’m used to, but not so much that I actually care, and that’s from someone who’s overly sensitive to noises in general.
I disabled all the thumb-able buttons when I first got it, but it turns out I didn’t need to. I don’t find myself accidentally hitting any of them at all, so I consider them well-placed. I do appreciate the ledge for the thumb to rest on. It feels extremely natural. I don’t consciously notice the pinkie placement, but it would be nice to have a more indented spot for it to rest on, just because I’m used to that from the Gigabyte. Both thumb and pinkie grips are rubberized, which I like. The other finger placements are ‘satin’ plastic, which is also perfectly fine.
The mouse comes with optional weights, but I like the feel of the unweighted mouse, so I can’t speak to this feature.
The skids are bonded plastic instead of tape, and I expect them to last the life of the mouse. I’ve read reviews of people having problems with the sheathed cord, but I haven’t experienced any of that. Mine is unkinked and fine.
I’ve had this mouse now for about a month as of Feb 2018 and it’s doing well. The one thing I’ve noticed system-wise is that now my computer warns about a program running in the background when I shut down. This is presumably the Proteus software and it takes care of itself without my intervention, but the fact that it’s doing it at all strikes me as odd. I never had this with Logitech or Gigabyte, but it also doesn’t bug me enough to bother with it. Here’s hoping my new mouse lasts longer than the brief lifespan of the Gigabyte. So far, I would recommend the Proteus to anyone looking to replace an upscale mouse that hasn’t stood the test of time. It’s a shame nothing these days equals the 6+ years of my M518. That was a golden age.
Update: This is a follow-up to my initial review. I’ve been using the Proteus daily for 6 months now and it’s going strong. The scroll wheel has no issues and there’s no extra clicks from the left or right mouse buttons. No components have given me any trouble and I haven’t noticed any drop-off in performance. I can recommend this mouse.
First used Razer Naga Hex which i really hated for its weird shape and the senor that makes the cursor move around on screen when you play music on high volume.. then i got Razer Deathadder Chroma which was my current when i got the G502
The deathadder chroma is good but i didnt like that the keys are easy to press down and also the scroll wheel feel low quality and it feels that at some point i will click it and it will just break, the sensor was good and very responsive with no tracking issues.
Now with the G502 Proteus Spectrum, i thought to get it for the cons i posted above about the Deathadder Chroma, but damn i am grateful i did buy it their are a lot of other good things in it that i only noticed after i started using it.
Pros:-
- The sensor is really good better tracking than my Deathadder Chroma, lil bit more accurate although it feels a lil bit slower, like i used my DA Chroma mostly at 1800 DPI which is the default, the G502 default is 2400 DPI which is lil bit faster than my DA 1800 DPI but when i tried to use 1800 DPI on my new G502 it felt slower than what i used to, so i left it at 2400 and it seems tiny faster than how i am used to but nothing you cant get used to, still tracking freaking good and i loved how accurate the aiming is with this mouse while playing The Division
- The weights:: i never used mouse with weights before my Naga and my DA didnt have that and usually when i used a heavy mouse at my friend's i didnt like how heavy its or that what i thought, but when i got the G502 i thought okay for a change i will try to put all weights and try it for couple days. After playing with it for couple hours actually i like how heavy its, first it makes you dont feel the pulling weight for the cable like with my DA the cable used to drag the mouse for a tad after i remove my hands off it, but with the G502 heaviness it just doesnt move at all after i stop it also in very fast action in The Division i loved that the weight makes the left distance shorter because its not lite like the DA its heavy so when i left it up to move it to the center on my SteelSeries QCK+ its still so near to the mousemate
- the first thing i did was to only select one profile since i am not really a fan of switching between profiles, but i left the DPI keys as the default, it seems about right for me, i am always at the second stage which is 2400 DPI sometimes increase it to stage 3 but not that much. all keys feel really good and very responsive
- The wheel: oh god!! that wheel is a freaking bless specially with the free scroll key, you just press it and turn the wheel and that thing just keep on scrolling down till you stop it it wont stop by itself that easy, the only thing here free scrolling up seems a lot slower than free scrolling down but its no a big thing, the wheel feels nice also and you can feel how good quality its with the metalic feel
Cons:-
- The software is a lil bit confusing and i hate the idea that till now i couldnt find anyway to restore "on mouse memory" to defaults, lighting, Profiles, and DPI, there is no way to switch them to defaults, again i am talkign to mouse memory profiles, if there is away Plzz let me know.
- When you scroll normally whith the scroll wheel, talking about very short scrolls like one tick, it feels to move distance more than it should because the tick must finish you cant stop it mid way, not a big deal also
Overall i will still give the mouse 5 stars, best mouse i ever used.
Top reviews from other countries
Some of the things i have already tried to do to solve the issue.
Uninstalled previous drivers from other mouse.
Reinstalled the latest logitch mouse drivers for g502, went back to default state. Disabled the copy/paste/G-Shift buttons and i still notice this issue occuring
I will test it for a few more days to try and figure out what is causing it, otherwise i will have to do another return and it isn't like this with all g502 units.
PRO's
- very accurate, i like the addition of the optional extra weights.
- good feel and design
- rgb
- long braided wiring
- all the programmable buttons
CON's
- the middle wheel button is not made out of rubber, so it feels more slippery when quickly scrolling through weapons/items
Update:
The mouse is not defective, i ended up borrowing my nephews g502 and he used mines and i still ended up getting the issue as well, however he didn't get any issues on his system, so i believe it has something to do with software causing the issue and not the actual device, so i changed it from 3 stars to 5 stars!
Touche bien penser, fonctionnel et en plus joli visuellement en gros que du bon.
Je recommande fortement cette souris qui est à un prix abordable au vue de c'est pref.
G502 KORE/SPECTRUM has been getting loads of high praise from reputable reviewers. So really did not have to think too much before opting to buy this.
Pros:
* Plenty of programmable buttons (11)
* Sturdy build quality - unlike Razer
* Adjustable weight
* RGB lighting
* One of the best sensors out there
* Good user interface (Logitech gaming Software)
* Has 3 on-board prolfiles So your settings would still work even if you plug the mouse into anther computer which does not have Logitech Gaming Software installed.
* Dual mode scroll wheel (there are some cons to this, see the Cons section). The FREE mode is very useful for scrolling long webpages or documents.
* Snipe Mode - When you hold this button the mouse will temporarily switch to a different DPI. This will allow you to use a lower DPI while you aim down the sights of sniper.
* You can use the scroll wheel to scroll horizontally by pushing it to the left/right.
Cons:
* Button positioning is not optimal, especially the side thumb buttons. On the DeathAdder those button are positioned perfectly. On G502 however it is positioned too far back. They should have moved it a little forward and lower.
* The scroll wheel when in 'FREE' mode tends to wiggle when you lift the mouse. This will cause the wheel to scroll up/down due to its on weight when you lift and move the mouse quickly. Also, in this mode the wheel tends to move like a counter weight when you make quick mouse sweeps. Its feel like the wheel is trying to pull you back. You can switch off 'FREE' mode and you won't have this problem.
* When the scroll wheel is in LOCKED mode, it does not feel very smooth. Now, DeathAdder's scroll wheel has the perfect resistance.
* RGB lighting zones are very limited. Only the logo and DPI indicator has lights on them. The logo will be covered by your hands anyway, so that leaves only the DPI indicator. Should have lighting on the scroll wheel or one the sides.
* The cord is too stiff. You will need a cord holder to keep it moving freely.
Person likes:
* I like the way it moves on cloth surface. DeathAdder on the other hand does not seem to like cloth surface.
* Button are heavier than on DeathAdder, so no accidental clicks.
Personal dislikes:
* The base of the mouse is too narrow. I use palm-grip and I would have liked a more wider base - like the death adder.
* If you only use Index and Middle fingers for clicking the buttons and keep your Ring finger on the side, the ring finger tends to rub against the sharp edge at the top. But this is probably because of the shape and size of my hand.
* Bit tooo heavy even without the weights???? Probably only a matter of getting used to.
All in all: GREAT!
This mouse is an all rounder. With a precise sensor, adjustable weight, programmable buttons and DPI shifter, it can perform well on any kind of game, be it RPG or FPS.
Compared to DeathAdder:
Sensor: On-par
Ergonomics: DeathAdder
Flexibility: G502
Build Quality: G502
Material Quality: G502
Interface: G502
Scroll Wheel: DeathAdder
Mouse Cord: DeathAdder
Weight: DeathAdder (very personal preference)
Button Positioning: DeathAdder
