What we like: A staff favorite action-horror game. Remake of the original 2005 release. Gorgeously redone visuals. Fleshed-out story and characters. Modern-feeling controls. Side quests tie into game progression. Be ready for a challenge.

What we like: One of our favorite sweet and citrusy scented candles. A sophisticated interpretation of Froot Loops. The scent is fruity, flowery, and creamy, and the vessel (a tiny paint can) is equally playful and kitschy.

What we like: Our runner-up pick for the best chainsaw. Offers solid run time and enough power to make 35 cuts through a fir 4-by-4 on a single charge. The least expensive model we tested.

Other things to know: Can’t match our top pick in cutting speed, battery life, or ergonomics. Noticeably heated up in our hands under relentless work. Oiling the chain is a tedious process due to the lack of an onboard oil reservoir. New low.

What we like: Our vacuum-sealed storage bag pick, recommended in our closet organization and small apartment guides. Shrank down significantly faster and looked flatter than other options we tested. They compressed back down to roughly the same size and held their seal even with repeated use.

Compared with previous generations it has a brighter display, better webcam, MagSafe magnetic port, and other design updates that make for an overall better experience. Great option for everyday work tasks, browsing the web, watching movies, and playing App Store games.

Other things to know: We expect to see better deals in the coming year now that the M3 processor is out. Not ideal for editing photos, videos, or processing large media files for extended periods. Other things to know: Best used as a tablet instead of a complete laptop replacement. iPadOS still very limiting for coders, developers, and anyone who needs to use lots of eternal accessories. 256 GB and 512 GB models are also on sale. What we like: Our former upgrade pick for the best MacBook. Same general design features we love in the smaller version, but with a larger, more beautiful screen, better sound, and slightly cooler running temperature.

Other things to know: Comes with our recommended specs, the M2 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD. You'll need more RAM if you plan on lots of photo and video editing, coding, or other intensive tasks. Still a decent budget option if you're not ready to shell out for an M3 Air.

What we like: Sturdy plastic tray comes with removable compartments for razors and toothbrushes. Easily adaptable for daily use or a relaxing bath—or even for holding bath toys.
