Letter from the Wirecutter Team

new homepage on computer screen

Hi everyone,

Today we are relaunching our website to make it easier for our readers to find and buy the things they need. The new site is the result of months of research, design, coding, and—critically—dozens of conversations with readers to make sure we focused on what really matters. Our editor in chief, Jacqui Cheng, has written about the principles that continue to guide our journalism—rigor, transparency, and a commitment to working in the interest of our readers.

The new design builds on those principles, and is centered on three key areas, each hopefully making us more helpful:

  • Focused on the picks. You come to Wirecutter for help deciding what to get. The easier we make it to read our reviews and find the right picks, the more helpful we are. We threw out a ton of visual clutter to make that process easier.
  • Reimagined the site experience. When Wirecutter first launched, it was primarily focused on electronics but since then we’ve added coverage of cooking, outdoors, pets, baby gear, and more. New navigation, colors, fonts, visual cues, and a host of other changes large and subtle make Wirecutter a welcome home for all our reviews and the readers who use them.
  • Improved site performance. Readers expect our pages to load quickly, especially the millions of readers who visit us from their phones. We attacked this problem tirelessly. Our site loads much better on mobile devices, images and content render quicker, our security protocols are upgraded, and more. Wirecutter is now faster, stronger, and more secure.

Collectively (and with our own money) Wirecutter staffers have bought thousands of the same products we recommend to you, and we rely on them daily in our own lives and homes. We trust the hard work of our colleagues and we also love the community we have with our readers. Your ideas and feedback over the years have directly influenced our work, and will shape the road ahead. (In case you’re wondering, all 62,000+ reader comments from the old site are saved and being moved to the new site. This meticulous work will take a few more weeks). Please keep letting us know what you think!

While any change can be unsettling, change is also necessary for us to bring you the best work done by our team of researchers, reporters, and curious people like yourself. We are proud of the new website and excited to welcome you to it.

Sincerely,
The Wirecutter Team
