Product Description
Siemens VC30GRYU Versicharge 30-Amp Electric Vehicle Charger with Flexible Indoor/Outdoor Cord
Siemens VersiCharge Electric Vehicle Chargers
Founded more than 165 years ago, Siemens is a worldwide industry leader in electronics and electrical engineering, dedicated to innovation, quality, and reliability in the fields of energy, industry, and healthcare. Standing for technological excellence and delivering infrastructure solutions, Siemens is the world’s chief supplier of environmental technologies, with about 40 percent of its total revenue coming from green products and solutions. VersiCharge is just one more best in class product in the green energy sector to be developed by Siemens.
VersiCharge is available in plug in (VC30GRU) and hard wired options (VC30GRHW) VersiCharge makes it easier than ever to incorporate energy efficient practices into your homeVersiCharge Selection
The Siemens 30-A Level 2 VersiCharge electric vehicle charger is available in two configurations – Hardwire for indoor use only (VC30GRYHW) and Universal which can be used indoors and outside (VC30GRYU). The Universal unit arrives ready to plug in for use into a 240V receptacle and is easily attachable to most surfaces with the provided mounting bracket.
Charging Convenience
Most EV batteries will be charged from zero to full in less than 3.5 hours, leaving plenty of time to delay your charge by 2-8 hours with the easy to use time of charge delay feature on the unit. Additional features like the status indicating LED Halo visible from a distance and a clean cord management solution will leave you even more satisfied when you get into your fully charged EV every day.
Choose Whichever Installation is Right for You
The Universal VersiCharge is equipped with a plug and cord assembly which can either be plugged into a suitably sized double-gang receptacle below or behind the unit. The plug and cord assembly can be detached from the unit for a hardwired installation. For an indoor only hardwire application, we recommend the more cost effective VersiCharge hardwire version (VC30GRYHW). Not only does this easy plug and play installation enable you to take your VersiCharge on the road with you, but it comes equipped with a mounting bracket and other hardware for permanent installation at home in your garage, carport, or parking pad. The weatherproof NEMA 4 enclosure, made of 60 percent recycled material with matte finish, is designed to withstand the elements no matter its location. The unit’s standard SAE J1772 connector is ergonomic for user comfort and an integrated holster keeps debris and dust out of the plug for clean and convenient usage. The attached 20-foot cord (14 foot for Hardwire only) wraps over the top of the enclosure for expedient, clean storage.
Making Energy Efficiency Easy
The VersiCharge is jam packed with user-friendly features that make it easier than ever to efficiently and economically charge your electric vehicle. Monitor the status of your vehicle’s charge with help from the LED color indication halo that’s visible from across the garage and displays the stage at which your charge stands, from ready to charge, to charging, to fully charged. As demand response utility plans increase in popularity, inquire with your utility about utilizing the VersiCharge low voltage connection to enroll your charger in potential savings programs offered by your utility. Further adjust charging status to specifically fit your schedule and electricity bill budget with help from the delay timer functionality, which allows you to postpone charging for up to eight hours from the time of plug-in with the press of a button. Regardless of when you choose to charge, the VersiCharge power output can be adjusted to complement the outlet’s capability, ranging in increments from a maximum power setting of 7.2 kW to 1.8 kW. Plus, by delivering adjustable, extended amperage options, the VersiCharge keeps up with evolving electric vehicle technology, helping to future proof compatibility over time. If you are looking for speed, please refer to the table at the top right of the page to compare the amount of miles charged in a certain time period by your VersiCharge over a Level I charger and other seemingly competitive products.

We moved about 18 months ago, taking our Siemens EVSE with us. Second house, second installation! While we are now in a much smaller place (I've retired), and we don't have an elaborate solar system here, we do have a fantastic albeit uncomplicated ESVE that is still recharging our Volt every single day. The simple delay start option allows us the ability to decide when charging begins. That said, I would wholeheartedly recommend the purchase of this Siemens EVSE. Basic, yes! Reliable, definitely. Easy to use, without a doubt. My only suggestion is that no matter how well you think you know electric, if you are not actually a certified electrician, that you hire a certified electrician to properly install a dedicated circuit for the EVSE to operate on. Don't risk your two most valuable assets, your home and your vehicle. ~Mr. T. Morton
Original Post ---- I wanted a uncomplicated unit, just plug in and charge! I've read reviews on so may Level 2 chargers that I guess some people love because they can check the status of the charge from great distances via their smart phone. This would not be me. I just want to come home from my outing and plug in my Volt to top off the batteries. This unit has built in 2,4,6 & 8 hour charge delay for those that get better rates at night. No need to program a device and pray the app works or to have to rely on the availability of wifi to charge your vehicle. Just plug in and charge! I hired an electrician to install the 40 amp 220v service and outlet. He did a great job and including the need to run wire through the attic, he was done within a couple of hrs. The end result is I can now charge my car after bebopping around town in a matter of a couple hrs instead of overnight when I used the 110v Level 1 charger.
The charger is easy to operate and I can neatly store the cord by just wrapping it around the unit itself. Though the charge cord is plenty long enough, just to have it, I wished I'd gotten the longer cord. Otherwise this was a perfect solution. A faster, better and safer way to recharge my Volt or for that matter any future vehicle that I purchase that is either a total EV, plug in Hybrid or ER electric like my Volt.
Would I recommend it, YES! I suggest that unless you are appropriately skilled, that you hire a qualified electrical contractor to install the electrical service. Better safe than sorry. Mr. T Morton

This product works exactly as advertised, simply plug and charge - it’s that easy. Some other models have WiFi control/apps, but you don’t really need those frills. We are on tiered energy, so it’s enough to set the delay button for when we are asleep and at super off-peak. I don’t use my car’s app, so if there was an app for this product, I wouldn’t use it either - and we have a lot of IoT devices in our home.
We opted for the longer cord because of the location of the wall the power box is on. Overall we have used this for almost 6 months, and have recommended it to several of our friends who just purchased plugin hybrids because it’s worked great for us. We spend about 40% what we used to spend on gas after factoring in our energy costs. (3-4miles per kWh. At $0.19/kWh = roughly $1 per 20 miles.) Compared to our Honda Accord which costs $4 for 30 miles, this product paid for itself in less than 6 months. (In California).
