Really disappointing. Bought this b/c of the Wirecutter review, but this scale is either wildly inconsistent, or the calibration instructions in the instruction manual (AND on the EatSmart website) are incorrect.
I know the above sounds crazy, but when I follow the instructions to calibrate—place scale on hard, level floor; press to wake up the scale, let it show "0.0" until it turns off—and then weigh myself, I'm getting numbers +5-10 pounds higher than my expected weight. However, *AFTER* I weigh myself and step off the scale, the scale displays "C" for a few seconds before shutting off. If I then step on the scale again, I get a result much closer to what I am expecting. There is NO MENTION of the "C" display in the instruction manual. I can only assume it means "calibrating," in which case, the calibration instructions are incorrect, as it will not display "C" until after I've stepped on the scale to get a reading.
Therefore: - If the "C" does not indicate calibration, then the scale is wildly inconsistent (5-10 lbs). Also, there should be some explanation of what "C" actually means in the instruction manual. - If the "C" *does* indicate calibration, then the instruction manual is incorrect. This doesn't exactly inspire consumer confidence.
As an aside (while we're on the topic of things that don't inspire confidence), I tried contacting EatSmart via their webform, and where it says "Purchase Date" I'm unable to select a year beyond 2017. (FYI, I purchased in mid-February 2018) Fun!
UPDATE: I did end up contacting EatSmart via their webform, and I received a response fairly quickly. However, it was just a canned response giving me instructions for how to "reset" the scale, and no mention of my concern about what "C" actually means. I get the impression that they didn't pay much attention to the actual content of my message. I'm returning this.
